GREAT PERFORMANCE Debi Thomas. 😂👏
IMHO, THIS was THE VERY BEST short program and costume in US Olympic figure skating history. Get it Debi. You knocked them on their derrieres with this one. Witt's face looked like, double, double, toil and trouble. Debi wiped the smugness out of her and across that blue showgirl plumage. However, Kat fired back with a long program for the ages, the best in overall history, when it counted most. Carry on....🎉❤🎉❤
When i was younger i always said her outfots either gave her luck or bad luck. It was either this outfit which she always skated better vs the other eed sequined one which i disliked when i was younger that gave her so much trouble.
Debbie Thomas just has a very good way of interviewing and she’s very calm and polite and I really like her it’s it’s just odd that she ended up living in a trailer if you seen that and like being completely broke
Unbelievable. Breathtaking. 👍👍👍👍👍
She skates at my rink in Orlando. She is amazingly humble and very sweet. It’s an honor to know her and to skate on the same ice as her! God bless!
She is at RDV ? No way!
5.8/5.8 forThomas. 5.7/5.9 for Witt in my book. And Thomas as the winner of SP.
Love Her..One of my Favorite Skaters.💥
It’s hard to stop watching this because her technique on all her elements was exquisite, absolutely textbook. The 5.7’s for technical merit were a joke.
OM GOD! I first became a Figure Skating fan in 1992, so I did not see this at the time. What a spectacular performance! I am now following her on Face Book, under my real name, Dave Smith. I am posting this, there right NOW! ❤🤍💙
Underscore. He was not at all pleased with the scores of the judges. You want to believe that it was in their best judgment. Clearly---not
久々に見たけど、カートがダイスケの髪に嫉妬してるというやりとりにやっぱり笑ってしまうw
久しぶりに未来ちゃんが見たくなったので視聴しました。 全てが懐かしいね。(`・ω・´)ゞ
flutz. only a triple toe loop whereas other girls like kwan bonaly and markova did a triple loop or flip.
i would have put her 3rd in the short behind kwan and markova but my gosh 5th place from the russian judge????LOOOOOOL
Gorgeous
I also love this Performance. So exciting, exhilarating! She seemed confident, in control and happy. I wonder if selecting Carmen for the long program was a mistake. Wrong program for Debi. I also don't think the 2 skaters skating to the exact same music, Carmen, was a good idea. Made it all about comparing to each other versus each performance on its own merits. I wish Debi's after skating life had turned out better for her. Fate was not kind. But it's going back to moments like this performance that reflect a glorious time for her.
Without a kid's body and weight, Tara couldn't do anything. The ISU raised the age limit to 17 NOW, which means Tara and the Russian girls all should go to the kid's Olympics.
To me, that was a lovely layback spin she did here. Nice continuous speed throughout with beautiful arm and arch on her back. Free leg was ok but probably could just be a little better(if one is going to be nitpicking). Also, the transition and the in-between movements are first-class, which sadly gradually became much less in her post 2000(imo) programs in general. Regardless, this is definitely at least in the top 3 of her best SP of all time!
However, her 2004 LP " Tosca " was so dramatic, epic, emotion and passion.
Linda apresentação!
It’s a matter of opinion. I think Michelle did better than Tara.
That wouldn't cut it in the 90's. She's not as good I thought she was. Her jumps aren't very good. Katarina wouldn't even have been able to compete in the 90's either.
Kristi Yamaguchi’s coach was in the stands!
After Debi's skate while the judges were compiling scores, I suddenly remembered Katarina Witt rink side. Witt is reknown for lingering rink side during her opponents' skates, usually with the intention to intimidate them. No other top skater lingers around rink side after their skate except for Witt. She's done it at every major competition against Debi. And ABC's Olympic telecast did not disappoint me, showing Katarina several times after Debi's skate. They must be onto something too about Witt, same what I've suspected all along. HA, Ha, Ha 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What people now think first thing about Debi is her mental unstable state now living bankrupt in a roach-infested trailer controlled by a violent older white man who is supposedly her husband. Anybody who doesn't know what I'm talking about should check out Iyanla and her "Fix My Life" episode with Debi. SMH. You feel nothing but being sorry for Debi.
I think had Debi been afforded the opportunity to train full time like the other skaters, her results would have been much better. To go to college at Stanford pre-med AND train for the Olympics ?? Uh, I don't think so. Today, it would be unheard of for an Olympian to go to school AND train for the Olympics at the same time. The academics would take a back seat. As a result of cramming too much into a packed schedule, Debi was stretched too thin. Her coach, Alex McGowan, also didn't prepare Debi mentally to deal with competing at the Olympic level, something Katarina Witt and her team did do. Again, it was Debi's packed schedule that precluded her from dealing with the Olympics on many levels.
I didn't realize she was coached by Gene Wilder 3:15
This music is meh
So you had no sense.
Nah. They just have no taste.
That was great. As a former skater myself and a dance instructor those music cuts were terrible.
The judges were obviously on crack or something. A 5.6 for technical merit. Her technique is superior to Tara's, even though Tara did harder jumps, Michelle's technique was so much better and Tara couldn't even touch her artistry. Her skating was on a different plain than any skater of her time, including Sloppyskaya.
Tara was younger than Michelle, Tara had a kid's body and weight so easier to jump, nothing more.
WOW.. That was such a fantastic program. Very exciting. I've been watching skating since 1976, but this is one great program. Great music selection and wonderful footwork at the end.
Great combination. Perfect double axle
I need this song in my hype list
For a short woman Miss Kwan has long limbs.
This program is genius - prolly one of the greatest womens long programs of ALL TIME. if you've ever listened to the hot mess of a symphonic poem that the original composition is and how lori nichol and lenore kay pieced together this amazing edit with lion of the desert you'll realize how brilliant it is.
Du bist toll liebe Debby. Dein Trainer hingegen ist unmöglich und unrealistisch.
What's the story behind this Taj Mahal program supposed to be? I've always thought it was a much more boring copy of Salome.
This program is about true love, memory, time. It's different from Salome. Do you understand the story ?
Are you kidding me? This program is her masterpiece. Salome may have gotten the ball going but Taj Mahal was a slam dunk!!!
@@damianlee5438 I think the main issue with this program is she never performed it once cleanly. Had she done one clean then people would get into what really made this program memorable.
33 years ago today. I come back to visit this performance often. The exhilaration of this, juxtaposed with the anguish of the Long Program was hard for me to take then( still?). I truly believed in Debi. Thanks for this moment, Debi. For me, but much more for you. Im glad you had/have it, and I hope it means something to you. You were of the highest quality.
Cleanest program ever.
Strange how Katarina's music was "a ragbag of Broadway tunes" yet Debi's was "energizing", when in fact it would have been rejected by the producers of detective John Shaft.
Does anyone know who they are talking about that died?
It is a shame how she's being erased from skating history, even when discussing important diverse skaters, because of her current issues. She's still the first African-American of ANY sport to win a Winter Olympic medal! DO NO FORGET DEBI!
No one is erasing her, only racist black people who think she wasnt black enough.
@@metsdudenj Lol...what would have made her "black enough?"
Why is she being erased? I'm not familiar with her, but I'm curious. She had a good program.
@@hollyjolly2066 some idiots on other posts said she denied her blackness and criticized her current condition, which is idiotic. Debi is a fine champion and role model who will never be erased from history.
@@metsdudenj I hope not. I just watched her long program, and loved them both. She's very talented and charismatic. How heartbreaking that she slipped up on a couple jumps in the long program. I wish she could have gotten gold. I've read she even became a medical doctor - what a super impressive life!! 💜
もう~何度見ても惹きつけられる演技💗 海外の解説者の方々もスケートの試合…というよりスケーターだけでない氷上のダンサーの舞台として心を奪われてるコメントになってるのが感じられます!💕🤗💕
Amazing!
She is also one of the few ladies to carry speed out of the double toe in the combinations. Her combination at the 1995 Worlds Short Program (which she won) is spectacular. Flutz, schmutz. Lol.
Her spins were strong here. This is why she is the most decorated US skater. Nobody can beat Kwan in her prime.
I always thought Lipinski's spin positions were hideous. Her sit spin and layback spin, especially.
Gorgeous
Her 1987 long program at the World's was better than this one....even though she places 2nd...
If the judging was correct then Debi would've won the SP at this competition. Katerina's was charming, but her combination was easier and a bit squeaked out on the 2loop part. Debi's combination was sublime. Also Kat didn't have very good extensions like Debi did.
Debi should have won the short. Had she placed first in the short program, she would have won the gold medal even with that shaky long program free skate performance. Katarina had a weak short program that was 4 years behind what was being done in '88.
This was the performance where Nike stole her 'just do it' phrase lmao As according to her documentary on Olympic Films😂
She did say it at the beginning, before the music started..
